Kamala Harris
Kamala Devi Harris, born October 20, 1964 was an American politician as well as a lawyer. She is currently the 49th vice president of the United States. She is also the first vice president to be female and highest-ranking female official of U.S. History, as well the first African American and second Asian American vice president. A member of the Democratic Party, she has previously served as attorney general for California from 2011 until 2017 and was a United States senator representing California until 2021. Harris was born and raised in Oakland, California. Her career began with the Alameda County District Attorney's Office. Harris was later promoted to the San Francisco District Attorney's Office. In 2003 she was elected San Francisco District Attorney. In 2010 Harris was appointed Attorney General of California. Harris was elected again in 2014. Between 2017 and 2021, Harris was the junior United States senator for California. Harris beat Loretta Sánchez in the 2016 Senate elections to become the second African American woman, and the first South Asian American, to be a senator in the United States Senate. As a senator, Harris advocated for federal de-scheduling of healthcare, and the legalization of cannabis which could lead to the citizenship for immigrants who are not legally documented, and the DREAM Act which bans assault weapons. Her most well-known accomplishments are her direct questions to Trump administration officials in Senate hearings.
